Today, I visited a nearby garden center to select Tomato and Pepper plants. They offered a great variety and I chose some healthy seedlings. It’s a joy for me to nurture these delicate seedlings and watch them grow in their new environment.
I prepared the planting holes with care, enriched them with compost and fertilizer, and nestled the seedlings into their new home. Ensuring they were well-watered, I covered them with a row cover to keep them cozy on their first days outside the greenhouse.
Now, it’s their turn to thrive, but they’ll still need my regular attention: feeding, watering, weeding, and protecting them from illness or pests. To me this is not work, it’s a labor of love.
Gardening is a serious commitment. Some self-proclaimed gardeners just put their plants in the ground and let them fend for themselves, too preoccupied with other activities to spend time nurturing them. This usually results in stunted growth and failure to reach their full potential. They envy my lush, productive garden, saying how lucky I am, not realizing the effort involved.
The adage ‘You Reap What You Sow’ rings true. By dedicating time to my garden, I aim to create the ideal conditions for my plants to prosper. While it’s still up to my plants to grow and produce, I’ve done my part to provide a conducive environment.
