I’ve observed that people generally fall into two categories: ‘Do’ and the ‘Don’t’.
The ‘Doers’ are those who embrace opportunities, aren’t afraid to try new things, and see themselves as open, adaptable, and supportive. At work, they are the ones who, when approached with a unique project or request, will respond with ‘I’ll see what I can do’ or ‘It may not be my strong suit, but I’ll give it my best shot’. They are also typically the first to volunteer when someone is needed.
On the other hand, the ‘Dont’s’ are quick to express their dislikes and what they refuse to do. In the workplace, these individuals, when asked to participate, might say ‘that’s not my responsibility’ or ‘I don’t do early meetings’. They often define themselves by their objections and rejections. Groups fueled by hate are often composed of ‘Dont’s’, who are more likely to discuss their aversions than their passions.
Reflect on how often you find yourself saying ‘Don’t’ compared to ‘Do’.
