Today, I picked up supplies for an oil change on my truck. Oil changes were once inexpensive, but now they cost $65 for just the oil and filter. At the dealership, it’s about $120. However, my reason for doing it isn’t solely for cost savings; it’s because I can use higher quality oil, inspect other parts and systems of the truck, and there’s a satisfying feeling in performing my own maintenance. Modern vehicles are so advanced that many repairs require special equipment. Vehicle maintenance is akin to caring for your body; no one cares for it as much as you do. Mechanics, servicing many vehicles daily, aim to work quickly yet effectively, often focusing only on the immediate issue. I prefer to take my time and thoroughly check the entire truck, not just the oil.
