When I stopped by my Mom’s apartment today she was engrossed in a jigsaw puzzle. I’ve never been keen on jigsaws, seeing little point in spending hours assembling pieces only to dismantle and box them up again. However, this occasion was different. She was immersed in a virtual jigsaw puzzle on her iPad, a new sight for me, and quite impressive. It mimics the traditional puzzle experience, offering a selection of puzzles and the option to personalize them. She’s slightly let down by the 400-piece limit, but it’s understandable given the finite screen space. In my mind It exemplifies a useful app. She appreciates it because it doesn’t require as much space as a physical puzzle and doesn’t depend on lighting conditions. The app allows her to puzzle at her leisure, anywhere, even in her recliner. She can easily zoom in for a clearer view and doesn’t need to worry about storage post-completion. It’s an eco-friendly take on the classic jigsaw, eliminating the need for physical production, packaging, and shipping. My Mom enjoys a vast array of puzzles without leaving home, at no cost, and without clutter.
