Parent Trap

I was mowing the back trails today and checked on the Canada geese that were nesting by the pond—they were gone. I think their eggs or young got eaten by predators. These were probably young geese and their first time trying to raise a family. They were young and strong but lacked experience in picking a good spot and parenting. Unfortunately, they lost their brood.

It’s tough for any creature that raises their young. Being a new parent is hard, especially without support. Most of us have parents and grandparents to help us navigate the tricky world of raising kids, plus many social and medical professionals to lend a hand. It’s a shame the young geese didn’t have an experienced goose to guide them. An experienced goose could have warned them about the isolated spot and the nearby woods where predators could hide and suggested better places to nest.
