The Law Of Success

There is no shortage of self help books on the market and over the years I have read many of them. Recently I decided to go back to the ‘mother’ of self help books to determine how applicable it was today.

Napoleon Hill’s book, “The Law of Success,” is a classic self-help and personal development work that provides valuable insights into achieving success. It was originally written in 1925.
I recently re-read this and realized that most modern success/self-help books apply many of the same concepts. In fact, entire books have been written on just one of these concepts.

  1. Definiteness of Purpose: Hill emphasizes the importance of having a clear and definite purpose or goal in life. This purpose serves as a roadmap to success.
  2. Faith: Hill argues that unwavering faith in your ability to achieve your goals is crucial. Believing in yourself and your dreams is a fundamental component of success.
  3. Autosuggestion: The book introduces the concept of autosuggestion, which involves repeatedly affirming your goals and desires to your subconscious mind. By doing so, you can influence your thoughts and actions in alignment with your goals.
  4. Specialized Knowledge: Hill advocates for acquiring specialized knowledge in your chosen field. Continuous learning and expertise are essential for success.
  5. Imagination: Using your imagination to visualize your goals and solutions to challenges is a powerful tool. It can help you create a clear mental image of your desired future.
  6. Organized Planning: Hill stresses the importance of developing a well-thought-out plan to achieve your goals. Effective planning includes setting priorities and taking action.
  7. Decision Making: Successful individuals make prompt and firm decisions. Procrastination and indecision can hinder progress.
  8. Persistence: Hill highlights the significance of persistence and resilience in the face of setbacks and obstacles. Many successful people faced failures before achieving their goals.
  9. The Mastermind: The book emphasizes the benefits of surrounding yourself with a group of like-minded individuals who can provide support, advice, and inspiration.
  10. The Subconscious Mind: Understanding how the subconscious mind works and learning to harness its power can help you achieve your goals more effectively.
  11. The Brain: Hill discusses the connection between the brain and success, emphasizing the role of the brain in translating thoughts into actions.
  12. The Sixth Sense: Hill suggests that successful people often have a heightened intuition or “sixth sense” that guides them in decision-making and problem-solving. While this can boarder on meta-physical I see it as more of an experience/awareness concept. As you become more knowledgable on a subject you can ‘see’ things that other people miss.
  13. Overcoming Fear: Conquering fear is essential for success. Hill provides strategies for overcoming fear and negative emotions.
  14. Time Management: Effective time management is crucial for productivity and success. Hill offers advice on prioritizing tasks and managing time wisely.
  15. The Golden Rule: Hill promotes the idea that treating others with kindness and respect is essential for building strong relationships and achieving lasting success.

Overall “The Law of Success,” is a useful guide to achieving personal and professional success through a combination of mindset, action, and interpersonal skills. Despite its age the concepts are timeless and the book is still a great read.
