Could You Live in a Zoo?

We’ve recently renewed our membership at John Ball Zoo. When the children were younger, it was a wonderful destination that also offered discounts at other zoos nationwide.
After several years, returning to the zoo was a delight with its new and expanded exhibits. The zoo has been transformed into a welcoming space. Despite being busier than anticipated due to favorable weather, the enhancements for family convenience were evident: fewer steps for strollers, interactive areas for children, and ample picnic spots for enjoying snacks or personal meals.
Observing the animals, I noticed a sense of contentment among many, particularly the reptiles, otters, and monkeys. However, the larger predators like lions, tigers, and bears appeared less content, merely sleeping or pacing despite spacious habitats. It seems these predators miss the freedom to roam and the excitement of the hunt, as their sustenance is effortlessly provided daily.
This reflects human behavior as well. Some individuals are satisfied with a life where everything is provided, enjoying rest, relaxation, and routine. In contrast, others prefer a life akin to that of the lions, seeking independence and embracing the unpredictability of forging their own path in the world.
