It was a nice cool day for working outside, especially in the garden. The turning of the soil, fertilizing, and bending and twisting involved is a great workout.
The unique thing with farming and gardening is that you need to take a ‘Carpe Diem’ attitude. There are only certain times of the year when you can plant or harvest and during those times you need to have the proper weather/soil/temperature conditions. You need to ‘seize the day’ when the conditions are right and make the most of it.
Our ancestors had little predictability and control in their lives. They were controlled by weather, availability of food sources, and dangers from animals or other tribes. They lived a Carpe Diem life as a matter of survival, taking full advantage of what was available to them on that day.
In today’s world we like to have everything scheduled and predictable. It’s hard for us to relinquish control, that’s the beauty of farming and gardening; you must adapt.
